Facilities

The school has specialised facilities to support student learning needs.

Ashford House

Ashford House built by Dr Charles Everard and finally completed in 1880 provides an interesting backdrop and logo for Errington Special Education Centre . The house features a large assembly hall, student library, staff room, and staff kitchen. The staff room and entrance hall are reminders of the past with their ornately adorned ceilings and chandeliers in the staff room.

Horticulture Shed

A range of equipment is available to support classes to learn gardening and horticulture skills. A large proportion of the work in maintaining the school grounds in undertaken by the students.

Kitchen

The student kitchen in the Administration Building enables students to learn food preparation skills. The student kitchen is also used by the students from the Senior section of the school to run the weekly "Tuck Shop".

Library

The library located in Ashford House provides the opportunity to learn about books and libraries under the guidance of the Teacher Librarian. Students are also encouraged to borrow books and other items (eg videos, tapes) on a regular basis. There are a number of computers in the library to support student learning and also enable students to access the Internet.

Sensory (Snoezelen) Room

A sensory room based upon the "Snoezelen" concept provides opportunities for students to relax and respond through their senses to stimuli provided by visual, auditory, touch and olfactory input. The room provides a stimulating but calming environment to support students sensory needs.

Swimming Pool

The school has an indoor heated pool where students gain water safety skills under supervision of a Qualified Swimming Instructor. The pool is largely used by the students from the Junior section of the school and also some students from the Intermediate section of the school. Other students from the Intermediate and Senior section of the school are involved in a swimming program based at Minda pool.

Woodwork Workshop

The well equipped woodwork workshop supports students to learn both safety skills and use basic tools. Examples of projects undertaken by students include building pencil cases and CD racks.

Work Skills Room

The work skills room provides the opportunity for students to gain "hands on" experience in a range of work activities undertaken in local sheltered employment options. This enables students to be better prepared for work experience as they have already learnt a number of tasks expected of them in the work site.

Yard Play Areas

To meet the diverse needs of the students, there are three separate play areas with each area having a different focus. The Junior play area is for students from the Junior section of the school. The Front Yard area provides a relaxed environment for students from the Intermediate and Senior sections of the school. The Back Oval provides the opportunity for the students to play ball games.

Each play area has a range of play equipment available for use by the students.
